Neville Goddard

Neville Goddard (1905–1972) was a spiritual teacher and author from Barbados, who became especially well-known in the US.
He is considered one of the founders of the modern manifestation movement and has had a great influence on what was later called “the law of attraction.” His work revolves entirely around imagination as a creative force.

His core message

“Everything you experience is a projection of your inner assumptions. Use your imagination and feeling to experience the desired end result as reality — and it will manifest in the physical world.”

Foundations of Neville Goddard

Imagination is God

• His central tenet: “God is your own wonderful human imagination.”
• The creative power of the universe is present within you through your imagination.

The Law of Assumption

• Not so much “the law of attraction” (as it later became popular), but the law of assumption.
• What you assume to be true in your inner self eventually manifests in your outer world.

Living from the end

• Act, think, and feel as if your wish is already fulfilled.
• By immersing yourself in the end state (the feeling of the wish fulfilled), you call that reality into being.

Feeling as the key

• Not just visualization, but especially the feeling associated with it makes it effective.
• “Feeling is the secret” is one of his most famous books and mottos.

Reprogramming the subconscious

• The subconscious accepts impressions that you consistently place within it.
• Before sleep (the “state akin to sleep”, SATS), the subconscious is most receptive to planting new images and feelings.

The Bible as an inner story

He interpreted the Bible not literally, but symbolically: every story is about inner processes of consciousness and imagination.

Self is the cause

• Everything in your outer life reflects your inner assumptions and beliefs.
• Victimhood disappears: you are the source of your experience.
